Some art work that I have completed recently…..
We were so lucky to receive a box of fresh apples straight off a tree from a friend a little while ago. We ate lots but I also had some fun with bakeing and my first try at short crust pastry.
Apple Cinnamon Cake
My 4 year old daughter also had fun making and decorating a cake of her own.
Apple Pie just seemed to disappear! Luckily I got some quick photos in first…..
I cant wait till our apples are ready next year and I can make some more yummy apple deserts, now that our orchard is covered and the birds (and our cheeky Cows) aren’t eating them all!
Ok so I know that it has been a while since I posted but its only because I have been working on something amazing! Something for all of us to enjoy and again giving back to our community. Have you been down to Gardiner Reserve, the main football oval in Gisborne, recently? The oval is beautiful, the tress surrounding it are beautiful and the river and hills beyond make the whole setting so picturesque. I bet you have been thinking wouldn’t it make such a perfect spot for a picnic in the park watching a movie on a BIG OUTDOOR THEATRE SCREEN! Well your not the only one the GARDINER RESERVE COMMUNITY PROJECT INC.is one step ahead of you! I have been helping put their ideas into images so that everyone can imagine sitting on the oval having a picnic in front of a BIG OUTDOOR THEATRE SCREEN. They are planning an upgrade to the netball court and oval lights to make it possible to hold night games on the oval too (the screen with double as a scoreboard for events).
This is all just stage one though! When you were at Gardiner Reserve did you look around at the buildings? So old and tired, and perhaps they don’t even serve a function which you use, or if they do then not very well! This is a community space so we are planning to make the buildings surrounding the oval more usable for the Whole Community! I asked myself what does Gisborne need, what would be good for the community and bring more tourism into our beautiful town? These designs contain a double height ART GALLERY/MUSEUM, a THEATER with stage and tiered seating, rooms for MUSIC/DANCING/ART (and more) classes, an upgrade to the existing Gym, Football and Cricket Social Rooms and Changing rooms which will even accommodate Female sport persons! And of course a grandstand to watch all the entertainment from the oval.
I had a lot of fun designing these spaces for our community. The curved roof is styled on our beautiful rolling hills and the cutout windows at either end of the building are of the Macedon Rangers Shire Council logo whilst weathered steel will blend the building with our beautiful autumn falling leaves. Ok so this new building may be just a concept at this stage but if your interested to know more or even to help with the outdoor screen, lights and netball court upgrades then the Gardiner Reserve Community Project Inc will have a stall down at the Gisborne Market this weekend- so go down and say hello and buy a Paver in support of making our town just that bit better! Please share so that we can all be involved!
There haven’t been many birthdays recently (therefore no cakes), and as the weather has started to get cooler I wanted to share with you some of the other baking that I love to make. These are my home made Pizza’s!
Home made pizza’s are almost a staple in our house as they are really easy to make and they are great for using up cold meats and vegetables in the fridge. Also I always search our vegi-patch and make sure that I can through something on like tomatoes or spinach or zucchini and of course fresh parsley depending on what the season is producing.
Making pizza bases may sound daunting but it is actually really easy. 2 1/2 cups of flour mixed with a pinch of salt, sugar, basil, oregano and then mixed with 1 cup of warm water which has a satchel of yeast stirred into it. Mix it together and give it a bit of a knead until it is in a ball shape, cover with a tea towel and let it rise for about 3 hours. If you don’t have 3 hours then you can prepare it the night before and leave it in the fridge after it has risen. Easy!
I find the more colours you can put on the pizza the better it tastes.
My home made pizzas always taste better than anything store brought too because you know the ingredients are so fresh!
Sometimes the only way to really know what is in your architects mind is to see a physical scale model. Computer models are good and the pictures that they take are great for material finishes but to get a really good idea of how the building works a physical model is the only way to go!
They can take longer than computer models, this one of Pippa’s House took me about 3 days, but it was so much to fun to make and it even solves or clarifies some of the issues I was trying to resolve with drawings.
Pippa’s House is currently finished advertising at town planning so I am hoping to be able to start detailing it soon. If you are interested in comparing how the 3D physical model compares to the 3D computer model check out the link to the clip of Pippa’s House on You Tube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNKTf0z8LcE
Pippas house is built around a PIPPA logo created for our beautiful little girl who has now left us. The rooms we will live in look out at the logo which are in the form of garden beds and part of the pool, and which eventually lead into the house and up the circular staircase.
The house wraps around the logo as if cuddling Pippa forever. She will always be part of our lives.
The big glass windows look over the pool and also beyond to the view of the paddocks and of the Macedon Ranges.
The big sweeping curved block walls recreate the movement of the swishing in the surrounding grasslands whist the large translucent wall to the south represents the stop where the grasslands meet the main road on which we are situated.
The project has a number of sustainable features including the use of energy bricks which have a R value of +8, double glazed windows, concrete thermal mass flooring and geothermal hydraulic heating throughout.
We cannot wait to be finished and moved in and being able to look out at our Pippa, but we are looking forward to continuing with this design and building process too- the Model helps to make it feel just that bit more real!
If you ever plan to use an Architect to help with the design of your house consider having a model created as it is the best way of visualising what your house/building will be like!
This looks like a simple little cake, but actually it packed a bit of a punch. It was a little surprise for my wonderful parents on their anniversary a few months ago.
What gave it the punch was the in the taste. The bottom layer was a basic vanilla square cake mixture, but on top the circular cake was a rich dark chocolate cake with a touch of coffee and Baileys- Yummy!
Covered with chocolate butter icing and scrapings of white chocolate for decoration it apparently it was a nice way to finish a romantic evening.
Like all girls I love my Jewellery. I am always looking just the right piece, but sometimes its a bit hard, so I had a go at making my own Jewellery.
As you can tell I like Silver and unusual designs. I especially like the delicate Tree Branch Pearls.
I also like the curved shapes created in these curved pearl earrings and necklace.
